August Releases Follow Up: A Huge Month for Switch 2, Madden, Star Wars, Metal Gear & More
August has arrived, and apparently the video game industry decided our wallets had been resting for far too long.
The August 2026 release calendar is absolutely packed, with major releases, remasters, ports, indie games, Early Access launches, and enough Nintendo Switch 2 titles to make new console owners start questioning how much storage space they actually have.
Whether you’re looking for football, fighting games, RPGs, shooters, horror, strategy, or something completely different, August has a little bit of everything.
For us here at JFK Gaming, there are several games jumping off the schedule immediately, including Madden NFL 27, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Star Wars Zero Company, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, The Sinking City 2, and a massive collection of Final Fantasy XIV content arriving on Nintendo Switch 2.
Here’s everything coming in August.
August 4
August starts with one of the busiest Nintendo Switch 2 days of the month.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward
Switch 2
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers

Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

The arrival of Final Fantasy XIV and its expansions on Switch 2 is easily one of the biggest stories of the opening week. Nintendo players are getting an enormous amount of Final Fantasy content all at once.
Hope you didn't have plans.

ReStory

Sovereign Tower
PC
For fighting-game fans, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is probably the headline here. A Marvel fighting game has the potential to become one of those titles that gets pulled out anytime friends are over and somebody decides they can definitely beat everybody else in the room.
Those claims usually age beautifully.

Another major Switch 2 release arrives with Oblivion Remastered. Having a massive Elder Scrolls adventure available on a portable Nintendo system feels like exactly the kind of game that can mysteriously turn a 20-minute gaming session into three missing hours.
August 12

Switch 2
August 13
This is one of the biggest release days of the entire month.
CloverPit

Madden NFL 27
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PC
Wild Blue Skies
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
For sports gamers, August 13 means one thing:
Madden Day.
Madden NFL 27 arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Switch 2. Madden remains one of those annual gaming traditions that generates excitement, arguments, franchise rebuilds, Ultimate Team debates, questionable fourth-down decisions, and eventually somebody yelling at their controller.
In other words, football season is officially here.
The Switch 2 release is also worth watching. Having Nintendo back in the mix for major third-party sports releases gives players another way to take Madden with them.
August 14
Cthulhu's Reach: Devil Reef
PC
August 18
Entropy – Early Access
PC
REKA
PC
Starsand Island
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PC
The Sinking City 2
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Vapor World: Over the Mind – Early Access
Xbox Series X/S, PC
Horror fans should have The Sinking City 2 circled here. August might still be summer, but there's nothing stopping us from getting an early start on creepy-game season.
August 20
1000xResist
Switch 2
DayZ
Switch 2
Mexican Ninja
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC
Mortal Shell II
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Slayblade
PC
Theropods
PC
Nintendo's new hardware continues building out its library with 1000xResist and DayZ, while PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players get Mortal Shell II.
August 24
Combolands
PC
August 25
1666: Amsterdam – Early Access

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Blood Dungeon
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, PC
Box Knight
PC
Once Human
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
If blasting your way through hordes of Xenomorphs sounds like a relaxing Tuesday evening, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 might have your name written all over it.
And probably some acid burns.
August 26
Brigandine Abyss
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PC
August 27
August 27 brings another heavyweight group of releases.
Kalanoro
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC
Lou's Lagoon
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, PC
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, PC
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
Star Wars Zero Company
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
This might be the most interesting day on the entire calendar.
You've got Metal Gear Solid, A Plague Tale, and Star Wars competing for attention on the same day.
For longtime gamers, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is going to generate plenty of nostalgia. Meanwhile, Star Wars Zero Company immediately becomes one of the releases we're most interested in watching at JFK Gaming.
Because regardless of how many Star Wars games we've played, apparently the correct number is always one more.
August 28
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition
Switch 2
Soccer and Elden Ring on the same day?
That might be the most bizarrely perfect JFK Gaming combination imaginable.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters brings another soccer game into the mix, while Elden Ring Tarnished Edition gives Switch 2 owners the opportunity to experience the joy of wandering into an area they definitely aren't ready for and being turned into digital paste by something 30 times their size.
Portable suffering has arrived.
August 31
Serious Sam: Shatterverse
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
And just when you thought August was finished, Serious Sam: Shatterverse slides in on the final day of the month.
Our August Games to Watch
There are way too many games releasing this month to play everything, but a few stand above the rest on our radar.
Madden NFL 27 is an obvious one. Madden is part sports game and part annual American gaming ritual, and we're interested to see how this year's version plays across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and especially Switch 2.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls has the potential to become a great multiplayer game, particularly if you're looking for something competitive that doesn't require committing to a 40-hour campaign.
Star Wars Zero Company is another game we'll be watching closely. Star Wars and gaming have produced everything from classics to games we'd rather pretend never happened, so a new entry always gets our attention.
Then there's Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, which should appeal heavily to longtime gamers while introducing another generation of players to one of gaming's most recognizable franchises.
And finally, the Switch 2 continues assembling a ridiculous library.
Final Fantasy XIV. Oblivion Remastered. Lies of P. Everspace 2. DayZ. 1000xResist. Elden Ring. Madden.
Nintendo clearly isn't interested in letting the Switch 2 survive solely on first-party games.
That's very good news for gamers.
What Are You Playing?
August 2026 gives gamers an unusually deep lineup. There are enormous franchises, smaller indie releases, remasters, Early Access games, sports titles, RPGs, shooters, horror games, fighting games, and more arriving throughout the month.
The harder question isn't whether there's something worth playing.
It's figuring out what you're going to play first.
For us, Madden NFL 27, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and Star Wars Zero Company are sitting near the top of the list.
But we want to hear from you.
What August release are you most excited to play?
And more importantly:
What game do you want to see us play, stream, or talk about here at JFK Gaming?
